Why ZS?

As a college junior looking for summer internships, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into with pharmaceutical consulting. I knew I liked the idea of solving new problems and never working on the same project twice, but what did that entail on a day-to-day basis? Nevertheless, when the time came to make a decision, I knew I would get more hands-on experience at ZS than at any other firm. That steep learning curve during my 3-month internship was loaded with real project work, client-facing meetings, and the satisfaction of knowing that my work was impacting decisions.

But what really drove my decision to join ZS full-time were the people. During my internship at ZS, I discovered a group of intelligent people who were genuinely nice. They strove to create a collaborative environment where finding someone to help out with a tough problem was no more difficult than walking to the next cube or sending out an internal office email asking for assistance.

My Favorite Project

One of my favorite projects, not to mention my first ZS project, was a qualitative/quantitative market research study during my internship. Not only did this project have client impact, a large chunk of my fundamental ZS knowledge came from this project. I gained exposure in everything from how to make a client deliverable to how to interview a doctor. It was on this project that I learned what it meant to be an Associate at ZS, and the type of work I would be staffed on if I decided to join ZS after graduation.

My After-Hours Engagement/Activities

Most of my after-hours activities involve working out. I love to swim, run, hike and take spinning classes. Since joining ZS, I’ve also created a bucket list of new activities I would like to do, such as scrapbooking and reading the entire Song of Ice & Fire series by George Martin. Next up: spelunking, archery and cliff jumping.

ZS in One Word

The word I would use to describe ZS’ culture is collaborative. The entire ZS experience is based around teamwork and cooperation. It’s regular in ZS to see a coworker wander over to another office and ask for help on a project problem. No matter how busy your coworkers are, you will always find someone who is willing to help, or point you in the right direction if they don’t know the answer. It is this method of leveraging every individual’s knowledge as nuggets of information to pass on to ZS as a whole that creates value for our clients.

My Advice for Potential ZSers

I think the best advice for potential ZSers is to look for a job where you like the people. Your coworkers make or break your experience at a firm, and cannot be weighed lightly. When going through the interview process, make sure you ask questions about the company culture, and get a feel for the type of people. ZS puts value on both intelligence and personality fit, one of the many reasons the #1 internally ranked factor at ZS is “I enjoy working with my coworkers.”
