Why ZS?

I was attracted to ZS because it is a fast-growing global consulting firm that I felt would provide me with many international project opportunities. ZS stood out from other consulting firms for me because it has specialized practice areas and specific client industries, and I felt ZS would help me reach my goal of growing into an international business expert with knowledge in a specialized field. Finally, I liked that ZS Tokyo is a small office filled with smart people, and a challenging work environment.

My Favorite Project

My favorite project at ZS was a territory alignment project for a pharmaceutical company. Since this project was my first project as a full-time employee, everything was very interesting and challenging. Through this project, I learned a lot about ZS culture, consulting work, and pharmaceutical companies’ sales departments. My project team members were helpful, patiently teaching me everything I needed to know. Moreover, when visiting the client’s sales offices around the country for an alignment rollout, I had many opportunities to communicate with many of the client's regional and district managers. I had one-on-one talks with them about designing their sale representatives’ territories. In the end, I got know the client well and understood their needs, which led me to do a better job and have a successful project.

My After-Hours Engagement/Activities

I enjoy watching movies, listening to music, looking for good restaurants, and traveling.

ZS Values

Once your project starts, you are always asked to contribute to work regardless of your title or position in the company. If my suggestion is helpful, the ZS team will definitely include it, even regardless of whether I am only an Associate with little experience. I believe this is what ZS values the most (ZS has three core values, "get it right", "treat people right", and "do the right thing").

Specifically, "treat people right" is something I feel deeply in my work every day. For example, if I have any question, everyone in the office is very nice and willing to help, even when we are on different project teams. My managers always assign adequate work to me with thoughtful consideration of my developmental goals. They also give a lot of useful feedback regarding my work on a timely basis. The work environment at ZS is challenging, but supportive at the same time.

My Advice for Potential ZSers

My advice to anyone considering ZS is to understand your career goals. You should think about where you would like to be in 5 years, and in 10 years, and not choose a career based solely on industry or position. I think finding the best work environment based on your career goals is very important. I felt ZS was the best work environment that aligned with my career goals when searching for a job.
