ZSer Shantam Shrestha found the chance to embrace his passions through Evolve, ZS’s professional development program that empowers ZSers to stay curious, own their career development, learn new skills and grow at ZS.
Where passion changes lives
While considering a career in data science, Shantam joined ZS as an intern in 2021. Knowing about ZS’s excellent reputation in leading-edge analytics, science and data, he was eager to build his expertise, make a real-world impact and solve complex problems.
“For the initial two years of my ZS journey as an associate consultant, I focused on the consumer space, gaining hands-on experience and knowledge in consumer insights and analytics,” Shantam says. As he grew his skill set, he realized he wanted to expand his horizon based on his understanding of the consumer while moving into the retail space.
At ZS, our collaborative culture helps our people find new ways to challenge themselves. All ZSers can explore new types of work through ZS’s Evolve program, as well as Evolve career aspiration discussions coordinated around biannual reviews with their professional development (PD) coach. These conversations encourage ZSers to voice their preferences for primary and secondary areas of focus in their work, interests in specific projects or teams and goals for the future. After sharing his interests with his team leads and human resources partners, Shantam kicked off conversations about his career growth.
The streamlined process for participating in the Evolve program made it easy for him to signal his interest in the kind of work he was excited to try. He learned about available opportunities and connected with team leads through the Evolve program portal. Backed by the one-on-one mentoring support all ZSers enjoy, his transition to a different team elevated his professional development through work that’s a better fit and that gives him a stronger sense of purpose.
“Developing expertise in one area and then adjusting to another takes you out of your comfort zone. The challenge is good because it helps you grow in your role,” he says. “I’m really enjoying the new opportunity thanks to Evolve, and I’m looking forward to what’s in store for the future.”
Looking back on his year in the Evolve program, Shantam confidently points to the highlight: ZS’s commitment to living our values. “Everyone promotes a collaborative culture where you learn a lot from other people. Stakeholders listen to your thoughts and appreciate your contributions on projects. This has been the best part of ZS culture. Everyone I’ve worked with on both teams has truly reflected ZS’s core values to their fullest.”
