Cardio vs. ortho: A tale of nuances in the shift to ASCs

The shift in site of surgical care from the inpatient hospital setting to the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) is not a new trend. Over the past 15 years, the number of procedures performed in the ASC has been steadily increasing due to a variety of factors and now more recently, due to COVID-19. ZS’s Shift in Surgical Site of Care Study explored why ortho and cardio are shifting to the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) at different rates, and what medtech can learn from ortho’s early adoption of the ASC model.
