When Mahmood Majeed began his career at ZS more than 25 years ago, the firm was a 200-person operation full of potential and entrepreneurial energy. Today, ZS has grown into a global firm with over 13,000 people—and Mahmood’s career path has grown with it.
Where passion changes lives
When Mahmood Majeed first joined ZS in 1999, the firm was small. “We knew everyone by name,” he reflects. “Even as junior associates, we were mentored closely and encouraged to bring forward new ideas.” Although ZS has grown significantly over the years, a focus on mentorship and bringing new ideas to the forefront is still at the core of our business.
At the time, Mahmood started as a business information specialist, working with large datasets and building statistical models. Combining his background in architectural design with computer science, he built a career of creative problem-solving. The hands-on, innovation-driven environment at ZS laid the foundation for his enduring commitment to blending technology, creativity and client impact.
Over the years, Mahmood has embraced new challenges, eventually working his way to becoming a principal, overseeing ZS’s digital and technology services from our global headquarters in Evanston, IL. Today he is driving innovation in digital transformation across healthcare and life sciences.
“My approach to digital transformation is grounded in helping clients solve complex problems with speed, scale and lasting business impact,” he says. In the evolving healthcare and life sciences space, he partners with organizations to design and implement end-to-end solutions that integrate strategy, data, AI and modern technology. Mahmood brings his strategic thinking to life with clients in ZS’s Commercial CIO Council, a collaborative forum he started four years ago where industry leaders shape the future of digital life sciences and discuss the latest innovations. “What sets ZS apart is our collaboration with industry leaders,” he shares. “My teams cocreate with clients—bringing together ZS’s strategic thinking, business domain expertise, design capabilities, technological expertise and adoption approaches to deliver sustainable change and measurable value.”
Award-winning leadership
Mahmood’s impact has been recognized across industries with two distinct industry awards: One for his Excellence in Leadership from Consulting Magazine and one recognizing him as one of the Top 25 Digital Transformation Consultants and Leaders by the Consulting Report. These honors reflect both his strategic vision and his enduring commitment to clients, colleagues and purpose-driven work.
A hallmark of Mahmood’s leadership has been his investment in people, championing upskilling and reskilling efforts by leading digital leaning initiatives and programs at ZS. Mahmood oversees ZS’s Digital Leadership Program with Harvard Business School, which prepares the next generation of leaders at ZS to navigate the evolving digital and tech landscape. He speaks regularly at global conferences and contributes insights on AI, digital strategy and the future of technology.
“The mentors I had at ZS shaped me, so now it’s my turn to do the same. To me, being a leader means helping others build, learn and take ownership of their careers,” he reflects. Under his guidance, ZS’s technology team has grown to over 5,000 professionals.
As he continues to mentor the next generation of leaders, he is building a team that thrives on curiosity, adaptability and a passion for innovation. He believes that in today’s fast-changing technology landscape, technical skills alone aren’t enough. “I look for people who are eager to learn, bring unique perspectives and work together to solve complex problems,” he explains.
